'Norris #1' is a regional American selection rather than an imported Chinese cultivar. It was found in an old planting in eastern Tennessee and introduced by Hidden Springs Nursery of Cookeville, Tennessee, and it has built its reputation on one thing: reliability in warm, humid conditions where most jujubes disappoint. UF/IFAS includes it in the short list of cultivars recommended for Florida with the note that it seems to thrive in warm humid climates and produces good quality fruit, and growers across the humid Southeast report it as a heavy and consistent producer. It is not the largest or the sweetest jujube available, but for gardeners east of the arid belt — where 'Li' cracks and 'GA-866' never quite finishes — it is one of the more dependable choices on the list.
