Waimanalo

Carica papaya

Waimanalo, often designated Waimanalo Solo, is a Hawaiian Solo-type papaya developed at the University of Hawaii and named for the Waimanalo area on Oahu. It produces small to medium round to oval fruit with glossy skin, thick sweet orange-yellow flesh, and a high sugar content. Known for excellent eating quality and a firm, flavorful texture, it became a respected commercial and home-garden selection. Like other Solo papayas it includes self-pollinating hermaphrodite plants. The fruit is enjoyed fresh and holds up well for handling. Vigorous and productive in tropical and frost-free climates, Waimanalo is a dependable dessert papaya for warm-region permaculture plantings.Read more
