Verde Dulce
Verde Dulce, whose name translates as "sweet green," is one of the four veranero (dry-season) clonal cultivars conserved in the jocote collection at the arboretum of the Universidad Nacional Agraria in Managua, Nicaragua, alongside Tronador, Chicha and Guaturco. Nicaragua is the richest country in the world for jocote diversity — as many as 50 local types have been registered there — and the UNA collection was assembled specifically to hold the commercially recognised clones as living, vegetatively maintained accessions. Missouri Botanical Garden's Mesoamerican jocote survey independently recorded "jocote verde dulce" in Nicaragua while logging around 40 folk names for the species across the region. Published fruit descriptions for this clone are thin: it is well attested as a named clonal cultivar, but the horticultural literature has not yet characterised its fruit in detail.Read more
