Tronador

Tronador is the most widely distributed named jocote clone in Central America, and the only one besides Jocote de Corona that Julia Morton bothered to name in Fruits of Warm Climates, where she rated its quality as nearly equal to Corona's in Guatemala. It also appears in El Salvador's nine-cultivar inventory as a dry-season type, in the Costa Rica Tree Atlas, and as one of the four veranero clonal cultivars conserved in the Universidad Nacional Agraria arboretum collection in Managua, Nicaragua. Descriptions of the fruit differ between countries, which is worth knowing before buying: Salvadoran sources describe a small, elongated fruit with green and purple tones and a crisp texture, while Costa Rican sources describe Tronador as a large, deep-purple jocote.
