Tamopan

Diospyros kaki

Tamopan is a large, distinctive astringent persimmon of Chinese origin, easily recognized by the deep constriction or ring around its shoulders that gives the fruit a turban-like shape. It produces very large, flattened orange fruit that must ripen to full softness before eating, at which point the flesh becomes sweet and rich. Valued for its impressive size and unusual appearance, Tamopan is used fresh when ripe and for cooking. The tree is vigorous and reasonably cold-hardy, and it offers good fall color. As a bold, ornamental, and productive astringent kaki, Tamopan is a striking addition to temperate permaculture orchards where large novelty fruit is appreciated.Read more
