T.R. Hovey, often written TR Hovey, is a compact, dwarf-statured papaya popular with home growers who want fruit borne low on a short plant. It produces medium elongated fruit with sweet orange flesh, and its main appeal is that flowering and fruiting begin very close to the ground, making harvest easy and reducing wind damage on a shorter trunk. Plants are self-fruitful hermaphrodites, so a single plant can produce a crop. The fruit is good for fresh eating. Its short habit makes T.R.
