San Franciscano is one of the five invierneño (rainy-season) jocote clones held in the clonal cultivar collection at the Universidad Nacional Agraria arboretum in Managua, Nicaragua, together with Tamalito, Jimoyo and De Coser. Nicaraguan growers split their jocotes sharply into veraneros that ripen in the dry season and invierneros that ripen with the rains, and the UNA collection was built to conserve representatives of both groups as vegetatively propagated accessions rather than as seed. San Franciscano belongs to the second half of the calendar, giving Nicaraguan households fruit at a time of year when the dry-season clones are finished. As with several of the Nicaraguan named clones, it is solidly documented as a distinct cultivar in the national collection but has not yet been characterised for fruit weight, colour or sugar content in the published literature.Read more
