Pingo de Mel, meaning drop of honey, is a modern Brazilian selection made at Fazenda Jaboticabal in Hidrolândia, Goiás, where growers screened more than ten thousand trees and kept this one for its sweetness, thin skin and heavy pulp. The estate went on to plant it out at scale — a reported forty thousand-plus trees — which has made it arguably the most commercially planted jaboticaba in Brazil today. It is generally placed in Plinia jaboticaba alongside Sabará, and it is best understood as a Sabará-type improved specifically for eating quality rather than for fruit size. Brazilian biometric work on the Goiás material recorded around 15 degrees Brix with fruit just over 2 cm across.
