About Lisa

Lisa is a named selection of Sabal palmetto distinguished by stiff, thick leaves that are less deeply divided and have fewer loose fibres than typical cabbage palms. It originated from unusual palms found in southwest Florida in 1998 and was named for Lisa Riefer. Seedlings do not all retain the distinctive foliage: the propagation trial described by Edison and Ford Winter Estates produced about 68% showing the characteristic leaf form. That result is not a guarantee for later seed crops. Their horticultural specialist recommends choosing plants at least four to five years old that already display the identifying leaves. Plant Delights Nursery lists sun to part sun for this selection. Its ornamental distinction is leaf structure, rather than a separate botanical species.
