Morena

Morena

Morena is another Mexican selection in the large-fruited, red-fleshed group alongside Hasya and Molix, and UF/IFAS rates it very good to excellent for quality with good to very good yield. Fruit is oval and runs 6 to 12 ounces, with smooth brownish-red pulp and, notably, very few seeds — growers commonly report only one or two per fruit, which is a real advantage when eating fresh. The flesh is often described as being half red and half caramel-coloured, giving it a distinctive cut face. It ripens February through April on a tree that stays more moderate in size than Hasya, around 20 ft. That manageable habit plus low seed count makes it one of the better all-round dooryard choices among the Mexican cultivars.Read more
