Modello is a United States selection listed in the UF/IFAS Florida cultivar table and in older Florida survey work, valued for large, handsome fruit rather than for heavy cropping. Fruit is elliptic to ovate and among the larger cultivars at 8 to 12 ounces, with light brown skin and unusually pale whitish-to-tan flesh that is smooth in texture — a visual contrast to the reddish Mexican cultivars. UF/IFAS rates its quality as good and its yield as only fair, and Florida survey material describes it in almost the same terms: good quality fruit but not a heavy producer. Its February-to-May season places it in the late-winter and spring window.
