Maradol is a large-fruited papaya of Cuban origin that dominates much of the Mexican and Latin American market and is commonly sold in the United States. It produces long, oval fruit typically weighing three to six pounds or more, with green skin ripening to yellow and thick, firm, sweet salmon-red flesh. Maradol is valued for its size, attractive flesh color, good shelf life, and dessert-quality sweetness. Plants bear fruit at a relatively low height for easier harvest. It is one of the most important commercial papaya types in the Americas. Fast-growing and productive in tropical and frost-free subtropical conditions, Maradol suits larger permaculture plantings where big, marketable fruit is desired.Read more
