Lorito

Lorito is one of the newer selections to come out of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden's tropical fruit program, propagated commercially through Zill's nursery, and it was chosen specifically for productivity and for deep red flesh, the colour the fresh market and the batido trade reward. UF/IFAS rates its flavour excellent, placing it in the small top group of the cultivar table, and puts its season with Pantin in July and August. Fruit is small by mamey standards at around 370-400 g, which suits a household eating a whole fruit at a sitting rather than a commercial packer. Because the selection is recent, UF/IFAS still lists tree habit, yield, cold tolerance and precocity as unknown and marks home-landscape suitability as 'to be determined'.
