Kwai Mai Pink
'Kwai Mai Pink', registered in Australia as the clone 'Bosworth 3' and often sold simply as B3, is the single most planted lychee in Australia, accounting for more than half of that country's orchards. It belongs to the Chinese 'Kwai May' group but was selected and propagated in Australia, where its reliability in cooler subtropical districts made it the industry standard. UF/IFAS gives it the top bearing rating of 1 - the same as 'Mauritius' - and recommends it for Florida home planting, but never for commerce here, because the fruit is small and the shell ripens pink rather than the deep red American buyers expect. For a backyard grower those objections are irrelevant, and the eating quality is high: firm, crisp flesh, a distinctly spicy-aromatic note, and up to 70 percent chicken-tongue seeds.Read more
