Kalipatti
Kalipatti
Kalipatti is the leading commercial sapota cultivar of India, dominant in Maharashtra, Gujarat and northern Karnataka, and it is the yardstick for quality in the world's largest sapodilla-producing country. It is a table cultivar with broad, thick, dark green leaves and oval to oblong fruit borne singly, averaging around 145 grams, with soft, sweet, mellow flesh and only one to four seeds. Published Indian evaluations put its total soluble solids near 23 degrees Brix with acidity around 0.16 percent, among the highest sugar levels recorded in the crop. Mature trees are heavy croppers, with reported yields of roughly 156 to 166 kilograms per tree and 350 to 400 fruits annually. It is also one parent of the Dharwad hybrids DHS-1 and DHS-2, crossed with Cricket Ball at the University of Agricultural Sciences.Read more
