About JRO 524
JRO 524, also known as Navin, is a widely grown Indian tossa jute cultivar developed at ICAR-CRIJAF from Sudan Green crossed with JRO 632. It is a fiber cultivar used as a benchmark in breeding trials. In a 2016-2017 study at Barrackpore, West Bengal, early sowing induced premature flowering and branching, with abundant flowers and pods after the February sowing. This response limits early sowing for fiber production under those trial conditions; the study does not establish an edible-leaf harvest schedule.
