Jiro is a leading non-astringent Japanese persimmon closely related in type to Fuyu and often sold alongside it. It produces flattened, squarish-round orange fruit that is sweet and can be eaten crisp and firm without astringency. Jiro is valued for slightly larger, blockier fruit and good productivity, and it is considered somewhat more cold-hardy than some other kaki types. The crisp flesh is excellent fresh, sliced, or dried. The tree offers handsome glossy foliage and strong orange fall color.
