'Golden Pillow', known in Thailand as 'Mong Tong', is one of the leading Thai commercial cultivars and was introduced to the Americas in the 1980s. It is the precocity specialist of the group: Fairchild's cultivar notes record fruiting as early as the second year, which is exceptionally quick for a tree fruit that more typically takes three to four years from a graft. The fruit are small and blocky at 8 to 12 lb with golden, thick, crunchy flesh, and the edible portion is a strong 35 to 40 percent of fruit weight. The tree stays small and easy to manage at around 8 to 10 ft, so it is a natural fit for a small yard or a very large container.
