Florida

'Florida' is a Pablo Lara selection listed in the UF/IFAS mamey sapote cultivar table and held in the USDA/ARS National Germplasm Repository collection in Miami. It is a tall, heavy-bearing tree that ripens early, in March and April alongside Pace, filling a valuable slot before the main summer mameys arrive. Fruit quality is rated good rather than excellent, and the cultivar is listed as lacking cold tolerance and slow to come into bearing, which is why UF/IFAS does not recommend it for home landscapes. It reads as a commercial season-filler and a collection tree rather than a first choice for a dooryard, but it is genuinely documented and propagated in South Florida.Read more
