Cricket Ball, also circulated in India as Calcutta Large, is the classic big-fruited Indian sapota and is named for the size and shape of its fruit. Julia Morton described it as very large with crisp, granular, very sweet flesh, and Indian evaluations confirm a coarser, grittier pulp than Kalipatti's, with total soluble solids around 22.6 degrees Brix and acidity near 0.20 percent. It performs well across both arid and humid regions, which is why it is planted so widely and why it has been used so heavily in breeding. It is a parent of TNAU's CO.1 (Cricket Ball x Oval, released 1972) and PKM.3 (Guthi x Cricket Ball), and of the University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad hybrids DHS-1 and DHS-2 with Kalipatti.
