Copan

Copan, named for the Maya city in Honduras, is a Tropical Research and Education Center selection that pairs excellent flavour with high yields on a medium, spreading tree. UF/IFAS places its eating quality at the top of the cultivar table alongside Pantin, Pace and Lara, and rates it cold tolerant. It ripens in July and August with Pantin. The mark against it for backyards is that it is slow to come into bearing and its spreading canopy takes up more horizontal room than the upright types, so UF/IFAS does not recommend it for the home landscape despite the fruit quality. It was one of six cultivars in the five-year Puerto Rico yield trial and is held in the USDA/ARS National Germplasm Repository collection in Miami.Read more
