About Maragogipe

Maragogipe is an Arabica coffee cultivar that arose as a natural mutation of Typica near Maragogipe, Brazil, in 1870. It is a tall plant with bronze young leaf tips, unusually large leaves and internode spacing, and very large beans. World Coffee Research rates its high-altitude cup-quality potential as very good but describes low productivity and susceptibility to coffee leaf rust, coffee berry disease and nematodes. Its catalog lists first production in year four, low nutrition requirements and a density of 3,000–4,000 plants per hectare with single-stem pruning. Maragogipe is a parent of Pacamara.
