Chompa Gob
Chompa Gob
'Chompa Gob' is one of the cultivars carried through the UF/IFAS and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden jackfruit evaluation in south Florida, where its blocky, uniform medium-sized fruit and firm orange flesh were noted for excellent texture even though the flavour was rated as merely good and mild. It sits in the middle of the group on every axis: mid-season ripening in July and August, moderate yields of 90 to 120 lb per tree, and fruit in the 12 to 20 lb range that are large enough to be worth cutting but not unmanageable. The tree is open and spreading with fast growth, and the evaluators specifically noted it prunes easily to a small size, which is a meaningful practical advantage in a home landscape. It is less commonly offered than 'Black Gold' or 'Golden Nugget' and is more likely to be found through specialist tropical fruit growers than mainstream nurseries.Read more
