Chelan
Prunus avium
Chelan is the earliest-ripening major sweet cherry for Pacific Northwest growers, a firm Bing-like dark cherry from Washington State University. Ripening 10 to 12 days before Bing, it is valued for beating the rains and for its resistance to powdery mildew. Best eaten once it reaches full mahogany color.
