Catongo

Theobroma cacao

Catongo is a naturally occurring white-seeded (albino) mutant of Amelonado from Brazil, a Forastero rather than a Criollo despite its ivory beans, which makes it a classic illustration that white cotyledon colour alone does not signal Criollo ancestry. Valued mainly as breeding and research material, it is otherwise grown for bulk cocoa like other Amelonado Forasteros.Read more
