About IISR Avinash

IISR Avinash (RR1) is a Malabar-type small cardamom cultivar released in 1999 from open-pollinated progeny of CCS-1. The breeder lists Karnataka and Wayanad as its adoption areas and reports maturity at 115 days from flowering. It has an extended flowering period and is suited to valley planting; IISR reports good performance at 2.5 by 2 m spacing. The breeder rates it resistant to rhizome rot caused by Pythium vexans and Rhizoctonia solani and tolerant of shoot, panicle and capsule borer. These ratings describe the reported Indian growing context.
