Branca is a long-established Brazilian jaboticaba selection listed by Morton and by the California Rare Fruit Growers, and its name is slightly misleading: despite meaning white, the ripe fruit is bright green rather than white. It is the one cultivar in the classic list that both sources specifically single out as recommended for home gardens, because it pairs large, high-quality fruit with a merely medium-sized, manageable tree and heavy production. That combination of restrained size and generous cropping is unusual among the large-fruited jaboticabas, which tend toward very big trees.
