About Karimunda

Karimunda is a traditional black pepper cultivar that Tamil Nadu Agricultural University identifies as the most popular in Kerala. The university recommends it for higher-elevation, more shaded sites in its regional cultivation guidance. It also has an important breeding role: the Indian Institute of Spices Research developed Sreekara and Subhakara as clonal selections from Karimunda. Those released selections remain distinct cultivars; their yield and chemical-composition figures should not be applied to Karimunda itself.
