Betawi

Betawi is an Indonesian cultivar, known there as sawo betawi, and it appears in the UF/IFAS Florida cultivar table as one of the few Southeast Asian selections formally evaluated in the United States. Julia Morton's survey of Indonesian sapodillas described sawo betawi as a large, popular fruit borne in clusters of two to four, but perishable — a trait that suits home growing far better than shipping. UF/IFAS records conical fruit of 5 to 11 ounces with light amber-yellow, slightly granular pulp rated very good and notably juicy, on a tree with good yield. Its listed season is narrow, concentrated in late December. The amber-yellow flesh makes it visually distinct from both the tan Florida cultivars and the reddish Mexican ones.Read more
