Amelonado

Theobroma cacao

Amelonado is the classic Lower-Amazon Forastero, originally from eastern Brazil and carried to West Africa by European colonists in the 19th century, where it became the backbone of the cocoa farms of Cote d Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon. Often what people mean by West African cocoa, it is the most widely produced single cacao type on earth, estimated at well over half of global output. Hardy, high-yielding and disease-tolerant, it is grown for bulk chocolate rather than fine flavour.Read more
