Alano
Alano is the sapodilla most Florida nurseries recommend first, and on the state's east coast it is the benchmark against which other selections are judged. UF/IFAS lists its origin as Hawaii, while Florida nurseries and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden generally trace the clone to Thailand, so its exact pedigree is muddled even though the clone itself is well fixed. It carries medium fruit of 4 to 9 ounces with unusually smooth, non-gritty flesh and produces across a long November-to-June window rather than in one short flush. Growers also note that its wood is less brittle than most sapodillas, which matters in hurricane country.
