Akil Especial
Akil Especial
Akil Especial is one of the newer Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden selections propagated through Zill's nursery, and it appears in the USDA/ARS Miami germplasm collection under the spelling 'Alkil Especial'. It carries dark red flesh and ripens April to June, a slot between the early Magana crop and the main summer harvest, which makes it useful for extending a small planting's season. Fruit is small at around 370 g, a size that suits home eating rather than commercial packing. UF/IFAS rates the flavour good and still lists tree habit, yield, cold tolerance and precocity as unknown, marking home-landscape suitability as 'to be determined'. Everglades Farm sells it simply as 'Akil' and describes it as a Mexican-origin cultivar valued for flavour and productivity.Read more
